EXCLUSIVE! Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan team up as exes who become partners in crime in The Love Punch romp

By Marc Andrews

She's an Academy Award winner and he's a former James Bond and together they make a magical movie screen pairing, so it's a surprise that Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan have never worked together...until now.
The British acting pair's first movie together, The Love Punch, is being released in April and you can view the gag-packed trailer for the comedy heist romp exclusively at MailOnline.
Also joining Emma and Pierce for the movie, whose locations span London, Paris and the French Riviera, are veteran actors Timothy Spall and Celia Imrie.
Emma and Pierce play ex-husband and wife Richard and Kate who long ago divorced, then meet up again where there still seems to be some vestige of unextinguished attraction.

Things change though when their retirement nest egg is wiped out because Richard’s investment firm is defrauded and the pension fund is siphoned away.

That's when the ex-couple decide to become partners in crime.

After learning that the unscrupulous French financier behind the scheme has just purchased a $10million diamond for his bride to be, the divorced duo grudgingly agree to set aside their differences and hatch a plot to gatecrash the wedding and steal the rock.

Roped in to assist in the heist are their former neighbours (played by Timothy and Celia) who are also trying their desperate best to angle for a reconciliation for the pair. Once they get involved the foursome have to kidnap people, gatecrash a wedding and ultimately steal a big shiny rock all set against the sun-drenched backdrop of the Cote d’Azur.
The Love Punch is truly Pierce at his most suave, charming best, while Emma is endearingly silly as well as being marvellously mouthy.
Watching the two acting together it makes you wonder why Emma and Pierce left it so long to finally share the screen together.

'Em and I have wanted to work together for a long time,' Brosnan told reporters, according to OCanada.com.
The former Bond was especially intrigued with playing with that spy image in a suburban setting.
'It was wonderful to be able to play with that, to use that image that is so indelible in some respects and follows you around,' the two-time Golden Globe nominee said.

'In many respects it’s the gift that keeps giving...it’s still a joy to be associated with,' Pierce explained.

'You're dealing with Charisma, Inc., here, on my left,' Emma told the crowd for the film's launch at the Toronto International Film Festival last year.
'And you’re playing with the clown in me. Because essentially I am a clown. That’s what I am. And always have been.'
From BAFTA winning director Joel Hopkins (the man behind Jump Tomorrow and Last Chance Harvey, no less) The Love Punch is released in cinemas across the UK on April 18.
