The trustees of St. John’s Health Center Foundation and the Irene Dunne Guild will host the 18th Caritas Gala, Saturday, Oct. 15 at The Beverly Wilshire.
Actor Pierce Brosnan will receive the Caritas award. The two-time Golden Globe nominee is internationally known for his work both in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes as a producer. “The extraordinary passion Pierce Brosnan brings to his family, his profession and his community reflects the true spirit of Caritas. It is for this and his great friendship to St. John’s that he is being honored with the award,” said Donna Tuttle, foundation chair.
Dr. Donald Morton is being recognized with the Spirit of St. John’s award for his life-saving contributions to cancer research at John Wayne Cancer Institute (JWCI) at St. John’s.
His pioneering innovations, such as the Sentinel Lymph Node Technique, have changed the way cancer is analyzed, detected and treated worldwide, and become the standard of care for melanoma and breast cancer.
As JWCI’s chief of the Melanoma Program and director of the Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program, Dr. Morton started the institute 30 years ago and made it a world-renowned cancer center. So far, JWCI has trained more than 120 young surgeons now serving as leaders at major cancer centers across the nation, providing specialized care and leading research teams.
Proceeds from the gala benefit the health center’s programs and services including the Child and Family Development Center, Women’s Health Services and the Irene Dunne Guild Gift Shop.

La Fundación del Centro de Salud de San Juan, y el Sindicato de Irene Dunne, presidirán la 18ª edición de la Gala de Cáritas.
PIERCE BROSNAN, re cibirá el premio Cáritas por su reconocimiento a nievel mundial no sólo por su trabajo como actor y productor, sino por su labor a nivel familiar y social.
"El comportamiento de Pierce, nominado en dos ocasiones por su labor artística a los Globos de Oro, en el plano familiar (con la suya propia), con su trabajo y su implicación en temas sociales y medioambientales, son el espíritu que persigue Cáritas y este es el motivo por el cual va a ser honrado con este premio." según explicó Donna Tuttle presidenta de la Fundación.
Así mismo el médico cirujano Dr. Donald Morton, será reconocido con el premio Spirit of San Juan, por su contribución a la investigación del cáncer en el John Wayne Institute, en San Juan.
Sus investigaciones pioneras, como la técnica del ganglio centinela que permite analizar, detectar y tratar en todo el mundo como así en el cuidado del melanoma y cáncer de mama.  Como jefe de JWCI del programa del melanoma, y director del programa de oncología quirúrjica Fellowship, el Dr. Morton fundó el Instituto hace treinta años y ha conseguido de él un importante centro del cáncer a nivel mundial.
Dicho Instituto ha capacitado a más de 120 cirujanos que ahora lideran los principales centros oncológicos del pais.
Los ingresos de la gala irán destinados a Centros de Salud y Servicios del niño, Centro de desarrollo de la familia, Servicio de salud de la mujer y a fundac. Inerre Dunne.
